My very first doctor's appointment for Holynd's pregnancy, Matt went with me. He sat in the waiting room, sweating bullets and counting down the minutes until we could leave. He tried so hard to be supportive and completely optimistic, but I could tell, the OB/GYN was a very scary place for him. He met my doctor that day and I never made him go back.
The very next doctor's appointment I had, my doctor looked me straight in the eye and asked how tall my husband was. I remember wanting to say, "Uh... He's not having a baby, I am", but I didn't. I answered and my doctor's eyes got a little wide. He asked if I knew how big of a baby he was. I didn't know. His exact words were, "You didn't really think this through before you got married did you?" and he laughed.
I called my awesome mother-in-law later that week and asked. Her answer was, "Oh, I don't even want to tell you!" Turns out Matt was a big baby. I didn't really think too much about it until Holynd hit a growth spurt during her third trimester. Born three weeks early she was just one ounce under seven pounds. Not huge by any means, but she would've been eight and half pounds full term. Still not huge, but when you're 5'1" you tend to get a little nervous when people start talking about babies over eight pounds.
When awesome Dr. W. heard how much Holynd weighed three weeks early, he mentioned the "I" word. Now, my induction with Holynd was anything, but a good time. I hated it! I expressed several times that I really wanted to go into labor on my own this time. Awesome Dr. W. listened and understood my concerns and didn't press the issue again.
At my 20 week ultrasound, Baby-Ne measured SMALL! (We're calling the baby, Baby-Ne now. Not ready to officially reveal the name yet!) Not too small, just five or six days smaller then my due date. I was secretly elated! I made Dr W. change my due date and told him I wanted to go overdue if I could. He agreed that it was safe to stay pregnant after my new due date. I never gave it another thought.... Well, I started complaining that the pregnancy was never going to end, but that's more Matt's problem then anyone else's.
So, on went my pregnancy with my 'secret' July 3rd due date. (For some reason, I thought this would be a fun secret...) I started reading everything I could about labor because I was set on NOT going to the hospital a second sooner then I wanted to. I DID NOT want to be stuck in a bed for 19 hours, epidural or not!
Until yesterday.....
I went in for a third trimester screening. Because of the headaches Holynd caused, they decided a quick peek at Baby-Ne couldn't hurt. Turns out Baby-Ne has hit the Peterson Third Trimester Growth Spurt. She caught up with my old due date and then some.
When I went in to see Dr. W., he broke the news.... "I can't let you go past June 27th". I was hurt, but a little comforted. I knew he was doing this to keep me from a long labor that would, more than likely, end in a C-Section. He assured me he wouldn't let this induction go anything like my first.
He started looking over baby's scans and said, "She's head down, pretty much engaged (No wonder I can't walk or bend over!) and ready to go. You'll probably still be able to go on your own. In fact, she's low enough that as soon as you're ready, she'll be ready. Don't wait to come in if labor starts." Still sensing that I was a little upset he said, "OB's are wrong all the time, but really, I'll be surprised if you go past 38 weeks."
Now he could be saying that just to make me feel better.... but it worked! Hearing that did make me feel better and I'm glad my doctor is making sure that my 5'1" fame will not have to birth a nine pound baby. :)
I'm still praying to go into labor on my own, but if not Baby-Ne will be joining us on June 27th!
Anyway! Anyone who guessed a birth date of after June 27th, lost. Sorry, no Caramel Apple from Dippidee for you. (Sorry Brie, you guessed while I was AT my ultrasound! But you should still make Skyler get you a yummy treat from Dippidee!)
MAN! I suck! I will defintely be making skyler take me to Dipidee to make me feel better ;). I just guessed the Monday after your due date for no real reason...maybe I was hoping you wouldn't have to spend a weekend in the hospital ;).
ReplyDeleteYOu are so lucky to get to go early! My OB is basically planning on me going a week over since i'm 5'8" and have a small baby. LAME! Sounds like everything is going great though! YAY!
