My results during Holynd's pregnancy came back totally normal.
Although, there was a point where an ultrasound tech measured her wrong and said she was a 8 1/2 pound baby at only 36 weeks gestation... Then, the High-Risk OB that was seeing me, went crazy and asked me 14 DIFFERENT TIMES if I had been diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes. (She also gave me a lecture for not knowing my blood-type. It's A+ because I always have to have good grades... HAHA! -Jokes will get cheesier as pregnancy progresses!-)
This morning I woke up and started thinking about my last GST. I hated it. (Well, not many people wake up in the morning and think, "HEY! I'm really excited to drink something disgusting and get my blood drawn!") But, seriously, this test was an awful experience.
First off, for those who don't know, the GST is where they make sure your body is processing sugar correctly. Apparently, since pregnant women don't have enough to worry about, the doctors now freak them out with the idea that they may develop a type of diabetes while pregnant. This means they will gain a lot of weight, have to monitor everything they eat and then in the end, give birth to a HUGE baby. (Gestational Diabetes = Big Babies). Sounds fun huh? The worst part: most women show little or no symptoms at this point in pregnancy! YAY!
The test goes like this: no sugar 12 hours prior to test, no food what-so-ever 90 minutes before test, drink awful tasting sugary-drink 1 hour before blood draw, must finish drink within a certain amount of time, must get to lab within one hour after drinking disgusting drink, have blood drawn EXACTLY one hour after finishing drink, and then panic and worry over results.
If you're anything like me, you throw-up and curse your husband after having your blood drawn because they took ALL YOUR BLOOD and you haven't eaten in almost three hours! (Seriously.... All the technology in the world and NO ONE has come up with a better way to test for this!)
Last time, I sat in a room waiting for the hour to lapse because I wasn't aloud to leave the lab at the hospital. I sat there with five other men all waiting to take an Urine Analysis Test... All of which looked like they had just been released from prison earlier that day. :) Then, after the test, Matt took me to Sonic to get me a yummy Diet Coke. I ended up laying on the grass out in front of the Sonic while Matt drove through the drive-through to get my drink. (I was seriously going to vomit at any moment and I wasn't in the mood to care what the employees at the Sonic thought about the pregnant woman laying on the lawn... moaning. I was also prepared to just throw-up all over the lawn at the Sonic if need be.)
One of the biggest positives of having two pregnancies so close together is that I remember experiences like this. Therefore, I have came up with a schedule to make sure this goes smoothly. (Isn't Matt lucky to be married to me!?) AND our new insurance doesn't require that I sit in a room with crazy inmates while I wait to have my blood drawn.
