Going Out!

A serving size on ice cream is like a half a cup.....??
Is that like a joke some guy put on there?

'Hey, come here: look what I put for the serving size. Did you see?! I just did it as a joke but they're going out like that.'

You ever know anybody to eat a half a cup of ice cream?

'Hey you wanna go grab something to eat?'

'Ah, no. I had a half a cup of ice cream. Yeah! A WHOLE half a cup. I just kept eating and eating and eating... I must've had TWO spoonfuls.'

One of the gifts Matt gave me for Christmas was tickets to Brian Regan. We LOVE comedy, so we were really excited to go. We left the kiddos with G-Ma and headed out to the matinee show.

It was a blast and he was so funny. We definitely want to try and go every time he comes to Salt Lake City.

After we got home, we bathed the kids and it was time for more fun. Two of our favorite couples came over and the wives went out while the hubbies stayed home to take care of the babies and watch UFC fights in the theater room. Amazingly enough, of five kids only one was still awake when the wives got home. I guess we'll have to start leaving the husbands alone with the kids more often. ;)

It will forever be remembered as the night out when we talked for so long that we failed to notice that the restaurant was empty and all the chairs were put on tables. Whoops! We might have overstayed our welcome. I'm very grateful for good friends that will chat until late into the night and husbands who will stay home with the babies so that we can.

Happy Birthday To You!

Don't mind the messy faces, jammies and nakedness.... Everyone was still eating breakfast.

Bad Case of the Mondays

So sleepy....

Today is Monday.

Which means I spent the day cleaning and what-not because it's Cleaning & Laundry Day. I have a love-hate relationship with this. I had to start doing this when Holynd was a baby and I went to school, otherwise we would've been wearing dirty clothes and living in filth. This also applies to Grocery Day, which is Friday. We would have only eaten cold cereal had it not been for my student/parent/pump-while-on-campus experience. ;)

Monday also means Family Night. Sadly, I also have a love-hate relationship with this. Sometimes it goes well, sometimes it does not. We get our FHE lessons from Confessions of a Slacker Mom. My mom found this website via Pinterest and I'm in love with it. Tonight's lesson was on the Tree of Life, it even included a movie. Which means my kids stared at the computer screen waiting for any familar cartoon character to come on the screen. Oh well, at least it was quiet for part of the lesson. We'll skip over the part where the girls danced their booty dance while we sang the opening song, The Iron Rod.

Some FHE highlights:

Us: The Tree of Life had special fruit on it. Holynd, do you have a favorite fruit?

Holynd: I like apples.

Us: Ok, the Tree of Life had very yummy apples on it.

Holynd: I like bananas and oranges too!

Us: Ok, but the Tree of Life just had yummy apples on it.

Holynd: I like grapes too!

Us: Ok, well Lehi had a dream about the Tree of Life and the yummy apples...

Holynd: Sloanie says she likes grapes and apples and oranges too!

****

Us: Do you know what the Iron Rod is?

*Holynd raises hand*

Holynd: It's a rod and it's made out of iron.

****

Us: The Iron Rod is like the word of God. Like the scriptures and going to church.

Holynd: No it's not! It's just made out of iron!

I'm starting to wonder what she says to her Primary teachers every Sunday....

Much Better.

This morning has brought us a much happier baby boy. (Sloanie is still semi-unhappy, but she has a tooth that is so close to cutting that I think a crunchy lunch will do the trick). He's been enjoying laying on the floor in the middle of the living room and wiggling like crazy.

Happy Weekend!

How Do You Like Them Apples???

My Sloanie loves her an apple. She'll carry around an apple for HOURS, slowly gnawing away. She'll eat an apple clear down to the core, but every once in awhile she gets sick of the apple before it's gone. She knows that if she gives it to me I'll throw it away. So, lately, she hides her apples. It's always awesome to open a cupboard door and find a half-eaten apple sitting there.

Since yesterday, I've been nursing sick babies back to health. I had a tiny cold on Sunday, nothing serious, but it wasn't long before Maddox caught it and then Sloane soon followed. Holynd, however, seems to be unfazed.

I've never had a small baby get sick. My girls were older when they got sick and so it was less scary and worrisome. I do not like hearing my little Pudee cough. It's heartbreaking. It's easy to help Sloane drink lots of fluids, give her medicine for congestion, make sure she rests and it even helps that she can kinda tell me what's wrong. Pudee can't and that makes me feel so helpless as a mother. I hate to leave him alone. I hate having to keep the girls away from him at all times. I hate not being able to help him understand what the sickness is and that it will soon clear up. It makes me wonder if that's how the Lord feels when we're going through trials. I bet He aches to tell us that the trial will pass; that one day we'll look back and think, "That wasn't so bad, was it?"

Having sick kids does make me grateful for a lot. I'm a wuss. There's no way I could have taken care of sick kids while coming across the plains. I'm not sure I could take care of sick kids without a cell phone on hand! (How would I know that the outside world still existed!?) I know that there's no way I could have done it without Diet Pepsi. Nope. Nada. I'm extremely grateful that the worst I've ever had to deal with was a bad flu Holynd got when she was 12 months old. No ear infections, sinus infections, no RSV or anything like that.

I'm so grateful for toys and a playroom. A place where we can sit and lay low while the snot clears.

Our playroom is always messy. Once a week, I take on the task of deep cleaning that room. Everything is put away, organized, sanitized, vacuumed, dusted and made right. It takes me about an hour to clean it and about 2 minutes for the girls to mess it up. It's taken a lot of will power for me to just let that room be. I promised myself I would give that room to the babies when we moved. It's theirs. That room has been a fort, castle, stage, doctor's office, store, movie theater, construction zone, etc etc etc etc etc etc. At one point, Matt built the girls a blanket-tent that stretched almost across the entire room. We've spent a lot of time in that room in the last two days. We'll probably be spending the better part of the weekend down there waiting for these colds to pass.
